Never stop infusion, life threatening!
This patient has a Lenus Pro infusion pump. This is an internal infusion pump,
implanted in the belly. You can’t see the pump from outside the body. This
pump gives 24/7 Remodulin intravenous. Remodulin is a prostacycline and is a
treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension. Every 4 weeks the pump has to be
refilled in VU medical centre in Amsterdam. NEVER stop this treatment, this is life
threatening. When there are problems with the pump contact IMMEDIATELY the
patient’s pulmonologist in VUmc.
Possible problems
- Occlusion of catheter: the pump will give an alarm. 8 Single impulses at one-second intervals, followed by a pause of 10 seconds. The alarm stops after 18 hours even if the occlusion persists. When the pump gives an alarm IMMEDIATELY contact the patient’s pulmonologist.
- Dislocation of catheter. When unidentified symptoms may occur contact immediately the patient’s pulmonlogist in VUmc.
Good to know
Patients with a Lenupro pump can go into a CT scanner. Also a MRI upto 3 TESLA is
possible. Security gates at the airport can give an alarm. For this purpose you always need
to carry your medical passport and the red ‘emergency card’of the Lenuspro pump.
