In mijn werk als internist en nefroloog blijf ik mij fascineren over de complexe regelmechanismen van het menselijk lichaam. In mijn zoektocht naar de juiste diagnose probeer ik deze te doorgronden. Hierbij is het essentieel om goed naar de patiënt te luisteren. Waar ik mij op de polikliniek vooral focus op zeldzame nierziekten, ben ik ook nauw betrokken bij de dialysezorg en zorg rondom niertransplantaties op de verpleegafdeling.

Onderzoek
Mijn onderzoek richt zich op de water- en zoutbalans in het lichaam. Wij hebben laten zien dat dit meer complex is dan eerder werd aangenomen. Zout kan zich namelijk op bepaalde plekken in het lichaam ophopen, zoals de huid en spier. Op dit moment onderzoeken wij wat de consequenties hiervan zijn voor aandoeningen als hoge bloeddruk en chronische nierschade.
Daarnaast probeer ik met onderzoek de oorzaak te achterhalen van zeldzame afwijkingen in de zout-, water-, zuur- of mineraalbalans en complexe nierstenen.
