Dit is mijn droombaan: werken als internist-infectioloog bij het Tropencentrum, en daarnaast onderzoek doen in sub-Sahara Afrika. Ik krijg veel voldoening uit goed contact met patienten en hun naasten. Daarnaast beleef ik veel plezier aan samenwerken met collega’s en studenten (in het AMC en ver daarbuiten), en de reisverhalen van mijn patienten.

Wetenschap - onderwijs

Mijn onderzoek richt zich op tuberculose en HIV in sub-Sahara Afrika, en dan specifiek op het gebied van de juiste diagnostiek en behandeling van deze ziekten (apart of in combinatie). Daarnaast doe ik epidemiologisch onderzoek naar trends en risicofactoren op grote routine datasets van TBC en HIV programma’s. Opleiding van (Afrikaanse) onderzoekers vind ik heel belangrijk en ik begeleid dan ook meerdere promovendi en studenten in diverse landen.
